Evangelism (Missions)

Evangelism (Missions)

A Biblical Understanding of Evangelism

Evangelism is not converting peoples but according to bible it Says that changing people lives

(The life given by god and rededicating to God back)

World Terminology (Convert) – Bible terminology (Change)

According to the Bible, Christians are called to care, to plead, and even to persuade unbelievers (2 Cor. 5:11). Yet we are to do so by “setting forth the truth plainly,” which means “renouncing secret and shameful ways” (2 Cor. 4:2).

Evangelism, in other words, is not about doing everything we can to get a person to make a decision for Jesus, much less about imposing our views. Attempting to force a spiritual birth will prove to be as effective as Ezekiel trying to stitch dead, dry bones together to make a person (Ezekiel 37), or as likely as Nicodemus giving himself a new birth in the Spirit (John 3).

Furthermore, evangelism is not the same thing as sharing a personal testimony. It’s not the same thing as presenting a rational defense of the faith. It’s not even doing works of charity, though all three of these things may accompany evangelism. Nor should evangelism be confused with the results of evangelism, as if to say we’ve only successfully evangelized when a conversion follows.

No, evangelism is speaking words. It’s sharing news. It’s being faithful to God by presenting the good news—that Christ, by his death and resurrection, has secured a way for a holy God and sinful people to be reconciled. God will produce true conversions when we present this good news (see John 1:13; Acts 18:9–10). In short, evangelism is presenting the good news freely and trusting God to change people (see Acts 16:14). “Salvation comes from the Lord” (Jonah 2:9, John 1:12–13)

(Go               -          Grow       -         Generate )

(Matthew 28:19,20    Galatians 6:8     Acts 9:31)

Where God placed you in one place be faithful and focus on person how god leads you, that first person is your Mission through him only execute your task given by God.

Because you can’t save hundreds of souls at time slowly with that one person there should be multiplication with spiritual growth.

 Culture – Communication – Caring

1.Culture

The first anthropological definition of culture comes from 19th-century British anthropologist Edward Tylor: Culture...is that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, law, morals, custom, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society.

Culture is the main factor in the missions first we have to understand their culture and mindset of the people and place then we can able to connect with them personally.

The first main step is connecting personally then it is easy to connect spiritually then our job will be easy.

What is the best definition of culture?

There is no single best definition of culture. However, in general, culture is a system of learned and shared beliefs, language, norms, values, and symbols that groups use to identify themselves and provide a framework within which to live and work.

There are seven elements of culture: social organization, customs and traditions, language, arts and literature, government, religion, and economic systems. These elements form the way of life for an entire society, including how people dress, the music they listen to, and how people greet each other.

Culture functions to provide a shared framework

1.Meaning

2.Values

3.Behaviours

4.Social interactions

5.Shape individual identities

2.Communication

Bible- in the beginning was the WORD-Communication; communication was with God. -

Communication between the triune God. (Community of) Hebrew 11:1 God has communicated in

various means but at the end through His Son Jesus Christ.

The definitions given here indicate the following facts:

1.A world without communication is unthinkable

2.Communication is a complex process. Communication is essential for human relationships

and progress

3.Human mind, body and physical conditions are vital components of communication

4.A common symbol system is essential for communication

5.Communication is a two-way process, that is, feedback from the receiver to the sender is an

essential component of communication.

This part plays a prominent role in the mission here there are two types of communicating

1.Voice from heaven (Holy spirit) we have to lead only through holy spirit in all situations

2.Our own skills of communication

Verbal communication is oral communication. It’s when we speak aloud. And it’s a two-way process. Meaning it takes both a sender (the person talking) and a receiver (the person listening/receiving the message).

Nonverbal communication can include facial expressions, hand gestures and body language. We often mix verbal and nonverbal communication when we’re trying to express ourselves or convey a message to others.

We can communicate verbally with others over the phone, online on a Zoom call or via FaceTime. But with all the technology and gadgets in the world, nothing beats having face-to-face conversations.

Oral Communication: It is communication by means of the spoken words. It can take

place as a face- to -face meeting or over the telephone. It could be personal and informal

communication nor a formal interview, business meeting or a conference or a speech before

an audience. In our day to day life and business life we use oral communication methods

regularly. This is the method of face to face communication. It is important to use oral

communication effectively.

Guidelines for effective oral communication.

1.Know your objectives or goals. You must know what you want to convey or inform and

You should be clear about what you want to speak.

2.Know your audience: Consider the needs of the audience, their understanding ability, age

and their level of interest in your message.

3.Know your subject: Prepare your subject thoroughly. See that you know your main ideas

and key points. You must know correct facts and figures.

4.Know your voice. Pay attention to your voice, volume, pitch, speed of speaking and

correct pronunciation of words. Our voice conveys our emotions.

5.Know when to stop. Don’t stretch your contents.

To effectively communicate messages, you need to understand your audience and put yourself in their position. Not everyone has the same knowledge or background as you, so ensure you explain information in a manner easily understood by anyone—especially when discussing complex or technical topics. Also, try to take your audience's culture or personality into consideration, as different demographics have their own communication preferences. For example, you would speak to a close friend much differently than you would to an executive at a company.

Confidence is significant because if you sound like you do not believe in what you are saying, neither will your audience. If you establish that you have credibility or authority, it makes people trust you and feel more interested in listening to you. There are a variety of ways to convey confidence, including the way you hold yourself during conversations and the tone of voice that you use.

Your tone plays a vital role in verbal communications, and how you use it can affect the way your audience engages with you. Combining a friendly and warm tone with a smile makes a positive impression. Meanwhile, speaking in a flat or monotone manner can make you appear uninterested, which can put off an audience. Also, varying your tone and using inflection to emphasize important

points can make interaction better. This technique is an impressive way to keep your audience attentive.

3.Caring

Shepherd and Sheep

(John 13:34-35) A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Caring is nothing but follow-up them continually otherwise devil will attack them so you’re shepherd need to protect your sheep.

 John 10:11

(“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”)

Ezekiel 37:24

(“My servant David shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd. They shall walk in my rules and be careful to obey my statutes.)

Jeremiah 3:15

(“And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.”)

Finding the lost

Luke 15:1-7

So, he told them this parable: 4 “Which one of you, having a hundred sheep and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one that is lost until he finds it? 5 When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders and rejoices. 6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ 7 Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

Without a shepherd, sheep are easy prey. They need someone to take care of them. A shepherd can carry the injured, feed those too weak to feed themselves, rescue the strays, and protect the flock. Jesus is the good shepherd we need, but he can't do it alone.

Our shepherd is Jesus and we created through him so there some sheep are lost so our first shepherd has the burden in his heart the person who has the heart of Jesus the same burden will flows in his heart.

Shepherd can’t live without sheep

Shepherd and sheep symbolize God and his Kingdom, so he doesn’t want to lose even one sheep from his Kingdom.

The lost one sheep teaches the lessons about relationship of god with his people and love

And it teaches about sin and sinner the main destroyer of life is sin and it leads to eternal destruction (hell)

As shepherds of Jesus Christ we have to understand the gods love about his people

In evangelism the ultimate goal is to save lost sheep from hell it comes only from heart and burden of Jesus Mission

Addressing problems and solving in Mission field

How to deal with: -

1)Addictions (Alcohol, Pornography, Illegal ways and Games)

2)Adultery and Prostitution

Life story of Missionary (History Makers)

Love is the Root of missions; sacrifice is the Fruit of missions

Mother Teresa (baptized August 27, 1910, Skopje, Macedonia, Ottoman Empire [now in Republic of North Macedonia]—died September 5, 1997, Calcutta [now Kolkata], India; canonized September 4, 2016; feast day September 5) was the founder of the Order of the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic congregation of women dedicated to the poor, particularly to the destitute of India. She was the recipient of numerous honors, including the 1979 Nobel Prize for Peace.

In 1946 Sister Teresa experienced her “call within a call,” which she considered divine inspiration to devote herself to caring for the sick and poor. She then moved into the slums she had observed while teaching. Municipal authorities, upon her petition, gave her a pilgrim hostel, near the sacred temple of Kali, where she founded her order in 1948. Sympathetic companions soon flocked to her aid. Dispensaries and outdoor schools were organized. Mother Teresa adopted Indian citizenship, and her Indian nuns all donned the sari as their habit. In 1950 her order received canonical sanction from Pope Pius XII, and in 1965 it became a pontifical congregation (subject only to the pope). In 1952 she established Nirmal Hriday (“Place for the Pure of Heart”), a hospice where the terminally ill could die with dignity. Her order also opened numerous centers serving the blind, the aged, and the disabled. Under Mother Teresa’s guidance, the Missionaries of Charity built a leper colony, called Shanti Nagar (“Town of Peace”), near Asansol, India.

In her later years Mother Teresa spoke out against divorce, contraception, and abortion. She also suffered ill health and had a heart attack in 1989. In 1990 she resigned as head of the order but was returned to office by a nearly unanimous vote—the lone dissenting voice was her own. A worsening heart condition forced her retirement, and the order chose the Indian-born Sister Nirmala as her successor in 1997. At the time of Mother Teresa’s death, her order included hundreds of centres in more than 90 countries with some 4,000 nuns and hundreds of thousands of lay workers. Within two years of her death, the process to declare her a saint was begun, and Pope John Paul II issued a special dispensation to expedite the process of canonization. She was beatified on October 19, 2003, reaching the ranks of the blessed in what was then the shortest time in the history of the church. She was canonized by Pope Francis I on September 4, 2016.

Although Mother Teresa displayed cheerfulness and a deep commitment to God in her daily work, her letters (which were collected and published in 2007) indicate that she did not feel God’s presence in her soul during the last 50 years of her life. The letters reveal the suffering she endured and her feeling that Jesus had abandoned her at the start of her mission. Continuing to experience a spiritual darkness, she came to believe that she was sharing in Christ’s Passion, particularly the moment in which Christ asks, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Despite this hardship, Mother Teresa integrated the feeling of absence into her daily religious life and remained committed to her faith and her work for Christ.

Note: - We can see in bible in Old Testament Daniel how God used him with one person the kingdoms have shaken and believed God

God can turn world up and down he has that power

It happens when that person is connected to gods vision and by obeying his voice in the same way mother Teressa also sacrificed her life and luxury living

And main important thing in life is we have to deny ourself then only we can carry our own cross then gods power will be flown through our life wherever we go

(Born in Christ and died like Christ – Ps Daniel)

In same way mother Teressa also born in Christ and her lifestyle was fully like Christ character because of one person the whole world came to know Jesus Christ by through her good deeds.

Points to learn from Mother Terresa Testimony

1.Obeying Gods call

2.Aligined with god’s vision

3. Sacrificial life

4.Heart of Jesus (filled with full of God’s love)

5.Reaching to the lost

6.Thinking all peoples are my family members

7.True religion teaches about true relationships to taking care of peoples

8.Facing difficulties and persecution but not leaving gods given task

9.Making many Christ followers to do the same god given task after her death

10.Died as faithful servant as gods will in her life.
